Preparing for our second pregnancy really started a year before we actually got pregnant. We worked with Sara as clients before taking her preconception course. We were pregnant by the end of the course! (Although I didn’t know it until after it was completed). Sara helped me rebuild my body from my last pregnancy 2 years before and gave me the knowledge I needed to feed my body nutrient dense food. She also reminded me of the lifestyle (less worrying and requesting help with childcare!) necessary for an optimal conceiving environment.
Sara is like an encyclopedia when it comes to nutrition. I love it and love that about her! She helped me understand how consuming fat is important to get pregnant and provided tons of recipes for new foods – I felt that I learned a whole new way of eating – with the bone broth, liver, and different ways to incorporate coconut into our diet.
I feel that Sara is also a wonderful and creative cook. She can find ways to turn some of our everyday eats into something more healthy and provided recipes for these. She also provided samples of yummy goodies like kombucha, homemade bread, and coconut jello. With me not being so great in the kitchen, her encouragement and simple recipes found on her website and in the workbook were valuable resources.
Working with Sara has helped me shift my way of eating by eating more “nutrient dense” foods, which means more fat, and in turn, more flavor! I am relieved that healthy foods need not be bland.
I highly recommend working with Sara, particularly if you’ve been (or once were) on a low-fat diet like myself. Sara is an amazing nutritional therapist. She’s made some dietary recommendations that haven’t been suggested by other nutritionists in the past that have helped me with my IBS symptoms, so it was natural to consult with her when the time came for my vegan wife and I to try to conceive. Sara’s natural methods (whole foods and slow implementations) were not drastic and seemed to fit well to our lifestyle, so we quickly purchased her “Feed Your Fertile Body!™” program.
Nothing is more important to our lives than our health, so the nomimal fee for the program was a no brainer, and the content/style was direct and easy to read. I’m not much of a reader, and I still read most parts of the book twice, in a matter of a month and a half. Since my wife was vegan (now is vegetarian), we had to pay attention to details that are only presented by nutritionists who wholly understand food and its role in the body.
A doctor, or a nutritionist not as detailed oriented and genuinely passionate about the impact food has on us, wouldn’t have the knowledge or ability to point out the gross number of deficiencies that we need to watch out for and how to compensate since we were missing the vitamins and minerals found in animals. Not only does she give you recommendations (we set up half-hour consultations to do Q&A once we read the workbook modules), but she’ll go the extra step and provide information about how critical something is to implement, some things are more important than others, and she always reminds you that you have a choice in the matter and don’t have to do everything she recommends. Everything worked out perfectly, we are 5 months pregnant now and we got pregnant on the second attempt.
